DR. LAWRENCE S. FELDMAN, School Board Chair, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), was elected to the Board in August 2008, re-elected in 2012 and again in 2016. He has served as School Board Vice Chair for four years, as Board appointee to the M-DCPS Audit and Budget Advisory Committee, as Chair of the Fiscal Committee and now serves as Ex-Officio on all School Board Committees in his capacity as School Board Chair. During his 44 years of service to M-DCPS, he honorably served the education community as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and region director working with the multi-culturally and economically diverse communities throughout Miami. Dr. Feldman’s expertise and experiences in the areas of public education, innovative educational models, budget and facilities management, and organizational and systemic reform guided his work over the years and as a senior member of several foundations and university teams, including Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education’s International Network of Principal Centers, University of Oxford’s Round Table and the Panasonic Foundation.
Dr. Feldman currently serves on the Executive Board of the Council of Great City Schools and volunteers his time and efforts to the following Boards, Foundations and committees: Past President of the Greater Florida Consortium of School Boards; member Baccalaureate in Education Advisory Committee, Miami Dade College; Board of Director, Drug Free Youth In Town; Board of Directors, Florida School Board Association; Board of Directors, Zoo Miami Foundation; Board of Directors, FBI Miami Citizens Academy Alumni Association; Advisory Board, Lastinger Center, College of Education, University of Florida; Advisory Board, Education in Neuro-developmental Disabilities (LEND) Training Program, University of Miami’s Mailman Center; Board Liaison, Miami-Dade Defense Alliance Joint Military Affairs Committee, Homestead Air Reserve Base; Advisory Board, Building Empowerment by Stopping Human Trafficking, Inc.; Board of Directors, Children’s Survival Network; and Honorary Member, N.A.S.S.L.E.O.
Dr. Feldman has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors since joining the School Board including: Champion of Farm Workers Award; South Miami Dade Leadership Award; the School and Community Mental Health Award; the South Dade Community Leadership Award; LULAC Outstanding Leadership Award; Jose Marti Community Service Award; Mexican American Council Community Award; and South Florida After-School All-Stars Award. Additionally, he is a national and state keynote speaker, presenter and facilitator for professional associations and organizational conferences. Dr. Feldman received both his B.A. in Elementary Education and M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership/Systemic Reform from The Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio. His current term expires November 2020.
